STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Khrista

Updated: Jul 29, 2022

An organization like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana is supported by hardworking and caring individuals. We are fortunate to have Khrista York as our Senior Case

Manager and Data Coordinator. Khrista joined the team in 2017. She is originally from Spencer, Indiana, and received her degree in Recreation and Youth leadership from Indiana

State University in Terre Haute.

She feels one of her biggest accomplishments thus far is continuing to grow the Posey County Site Based program for Big Brothers Big Sisters. In 2023, the program will have the

largest group of Bigs yet.

She is also vital in forming meaningful relationships with the Bigs and Littles and their guardians through match support and match activities.

“Building relationships is very important to me, and I feel as though I create an environment with my matches where they feel safe and comfortable to share and talk about things they need help with,” says Khrista.

Two traits that define Khrista are creativity and dependable, and she loves acts of kindness. Her favorite memory with the organization so far was helping with Disney on Ice in 2019 for

matches. During the organization’s 50th anniversary, BBBS was able to have Bigs and Littles meet Elsa and Anna. She called it truly magical, and we know from experience, Khrista was key to making it a success.

Khrista says although she’s had so many memories and feel-good stories through the years, her first ever match on the first day she was employed with Big Brothers Big Sisters sticks with her.

“I have watched the match grow over the last four years into something GREAT,” she says. “The Big Brother is always there for his Little Brother and anytime his mom needs help with ‘manly things’ she calls the Big Brother because she can’t relate to what her son is going through. The Big Brother has encouraged him in different aspects of life and helped him hone important skills that will be lasting. Talking to the Big, Little, and Guardian over the last 4 years and seeing/hearing the growth has been extremely rewarding.”

Khrista is a huge family person and brings that caring heart with her to work. She loves to spend time with friends, her two dachshunds Ellie and Rosie, her husband, watching movies, and reading books. She is also a Big to her Little!

“BBBS important because we continue to support youth in our community and surrounding areas by giving them a safe, caring, and stable mentor in their life that can ignite their power and promise,” says Khrista. “I see the importance of having a mentor each day in my job but also my own life. I believe that every child should have someone in their corner rooting and cheering them on whether it be a parent, family member, teacher, pastor, friend, or BIG!”
