Big Brothers Big Sisters is thrilled to announce that Andrea Robinson has joined Big Brothers Big Sisters as our new Chief Executive Officer! Andrea brings a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to youth mentorship that will help propel our organization forward in its mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Andrea has built an impressive career centered on understanding and supporting young people. She holds a Master's degree in Criminology from Regis University, which has given her unique insights into the critical role that positive mentorship plays in shaping young lives. When asked what three traits define her, Andrea doesn't hesitate: honest, reliable, and intentional. These qualities shine through in everything she does, from her professional work to her personal interests.
Growing up, Andrea dreamed of becoming a professional musician, specializing in flute and piccolo. That dream wasn't just a childhood fantasy, she actually performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra multiple times over three years during high school. While her career path eventually led her in a different direction, the discipline, dedication, and creativity she developed through music continue to inform her leadership approach today.
When Andrea isn't working to strengthen our mentorship programs, you'll likely find her pursuing her creative and cultural interests. She's an avid acrylic painter, tends to a collection of houseplants, and loves getting lost in a good book. She's also passionate about travel and exploring new cultures—including through food! Her favorite dish is Egusi Soup and Fufu, a beloved Nigerian meal that reflects her appreciation for diverse cultural experiences.
When we asked Andrea why she chose Big Brothers Big Sisters, her answer was clear: "I understand the importance of mentorship across the lifespan, and appreciate the longevity of the organization." Her commitment to youth development runs deep, rooted in a fundamental belief that guides her work.
"Kids are important because they represent hope, potential, and the need for guidance."
This philosophy perfectly aligns with our mission and reflects Andrea's understanding of the transformative power of mentorship in young people's lives.
Andrea draws inspiration from General Colin Powell's wisdom: "Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand." This approach to leadership clear, decisive, and focused on practical solutions—is exactly what Big Brothers Big Sisters needs as we continue to grow and serve more youth in our community.
Andrea is excited to lead Big Brothers Big Sisters into its next chapter, strengthening existing programs and exploring new ways to connect mentors with young people who need guidance and support. Her combination of professional expertise, genuine passion for youth development, and commitment to our mission makes her the perfect person to guide our organization forward.
Please join us in giving Andrea a warm welcome to the Big Brothers Big Sisters family! We look forward to the positive impact she'll make in our community and in the lives of the young people we serve.
