Get to know Big Brothers Big Sisters new Executive Director Andrew Backes. Andrew grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and attended college at the University of Southern Indiana. He describes himself as fun, competitive, and an achiever, and is excited to be a part of a team helping our youth today.
He believes children are important because they are our future and our most vulnerable.
“It's a great opportunity to be part of a team that serves our region's youth through one-to-one mentoring,” Andrew said. “The work we’re doing matters, and it’s humbling to work with a selfless group of people that have chosen to apply their unique skills and talents to a mission that's bigger than our individual selves."
Growing up, Andrew wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys with a backup plan to be a teacher like his dad. His favorite quote is from Henry Ford — “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
He loves experiencing new things with his family! His favorite movie is Rudy, and his favorite kids’ movie is The Sandlot. He loves holidays that involve lots of food — Us too! We are excited to welcome him to our Big Brothers Big Sisters family.
Please feel free to call 812-425-6076 or email Andrew if you have any questions. As BBBS gets ready for Bowl for Kids' Sake 2020, we sincerely thank you for your support as we continue to defend our youth’s potential together.
